The Story of Garrett Leight - GLCO

GARRETT LEIGHT CALIFORNIA OPTICAL (GLCO) was founded in Venice Beach, California in 2010 and is run by Garrett along with a group of young, passionate designers dedicated to creating classic eyewear models by combining perfect craftsmanship with timeless aesthetics.

Garrett was born in Venice, California, in 1984. Even as a child, he gained invaluable insight into the eyewear industry through his father, Larry Leight, a legend in the industry and founder of the Oliver Peoples brand. Garrett himself took his first job at Oliver Peoples but quickly discovered that he felt a strong passion for entrepreneurship and a great need to create something himself.

GARRETT LEIGHT is dedicated to reinventing the historic, giving iconic silhouettes a new and modern form. Garrett has never looked at new, fast trends, but has been more inclined to the timeless that will never go out of style. The iconic arch has been inspired by the movies, music, art he himself grew up with in Venice Beach. The modern finish is sourced from their regular customers. Garrett himself has described them as “cool, intellectual, local people with cool interests and jobs, but who fly under the radar. These people are the core of creativity in Venice.” Even materials and colors come from previous eras mixed with how they think glasses will look in the future.

GARRETT LEIGHT uses the most exclusive, highest quality materials from the best suppliers in the industry who have hundreds of years of experience. All of their frames are still designed in their studio in the Arts District in Downtown Los Angeles.
